If you’re a Star Fox fan, you’ve been eating pretty well as of late, thanks to the remake of Star Fox 64. However, Nintendo has just given us another gift in the form of Star Fox Adventures being available on Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics, starting today.
This one was announced during the September Nintendo Direct, with the Rare-developed GameCube adventure finally playable on modern Nintendo hardware, more than two decades after it initially launched.
And yes, I’m probably more excited about this than most because I love this game.
Star Fox Adventures joins Nintendo Classics today
If you’ve got a Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, Star Fox Adventures will be joining the GameCube Classics library today, September 9.
Nintendo hasn’t provided a specific US unlock time at the time of writing, so keep an eye on that GameCube Classics app for the update landing.
If you never played it when it came out originally in 2002, Star Fox Adventures was obviously something completely different for the series.
Rather than spending the entire game blasting through space in an Arwing, you explore a large 3D world filled with puzzles, combat, dungeons, and dinosaurs, using a mystical staff in the process.
There are still some classic Star Fox flying sections thrown into the mix, but Adventures is essentially an action-adventure game. This isn’t too surprising considering it originally began as Rare’s Dinosaur Planet before being reworked into a Star Fox title. A nice bit of trivia there for you.
I’ll happily admit that Star Fox Adventures is one of my favourite games in the franchise, even if saying that probably isn’t going to go down well with the vast majority of you out there.
There’s just something about actually being able to explore a world as Fox rather than permanently sitting inside the Arwing that has always clicked with me.
Give me a brand-new 3D Star Fox adventure with a huge open world, planets to explore, and the same graphical fidelity that the Ocarina of Time remake has, and I’ll be there on day one.
