If you have an Evercade console in your possession you will love how the cartridge system gives you that old-school vibe when it comes to the type of game you want to play. But of course sometimes, one of your favourites games may not be on the cartridges you own, or you may not have bought one because not all of the games took your fancy.
Here’s were Everecade’s new Highlight of the Month programme might just be able to help you out if you are lucky.
Replacing the Game of the Month idea, which got you a game in exchange for performing console updates, this similar, yet tweaked offering will download a game from the back catalogue to your console, giving you the opportunity to play something you may not own – you do not need to own the cartridge the game comes on to play it obviously, and each month the game will rotate out with a new one, meaning you have a monthly supply of a new game, and if you find something you really like, you can then pick up the cart it is on.
A blog post on the Evercade site says, “If you’re new to Evercade, you might not have taken the time to explore some of the games that came out early in Evercade’s lifespan — and if you’re an experienced veteran, it might have been a while since you spent some time with these games.
That’s what our Highlight of the Month programme is all about. Each month, we’ll be picking out an individual game from our back catalogue and showcasing it directly from the Evercade menu. You can play the game for free, even if you don’t own the cartridge it’s on, until the next Highlight of the Month shows up. It’s a great chance to catch up on some titles you might have missed or learn a bit more about some games you might not have played for a while, and it’s a great opportunity for the community to all explore a game together at the same time, which will make for some fun discussions on blogs, videos, podcasts and social media, we’re sure!”
What is the first Evercade Highlight of the Month game?
The first game to be offered for the next month is Data East’s classic Midnight Resistance. The 1989 arcade title appears on the Data East Collection 2 cart, released at the end of last year, but this version is the 16-bit console version featured on Date East Collection 1, alongside titles such as Bad Dudes and Karate Champ.
It’s a bit of a classic however and worthy of a place in any retro gaming library.
