The original Croc is one of those PS1 games that I’ll always have a massive soft spot for, so seeing Argonaut Games return to the series with last year’s remaster was right up my alley.
Now it’s time for the sequel to get the same treatment, as Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos will officially launch on October 29, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and GOG.
Better yet, Argonaut says development is now complete, so barring something wild, Croc’s second adventure is ready to go.
Croc 2 returns later this month
If you’re not down on your reptilian history, Croc 2 originally arrived back in 1999 and was bigger and arguably better than the first game.
Instead of hopping between individual levels, you travel across four different villages named Sailor, Cossack, Caveman, and Inca, while searching for Croc’s long-lost parents and dealing with the newly resurrected Baron Dante.
There are more than 40 levels to tackle, alongside the usual running, jumping, and tail-spinning. Croc can also triple jump, race cars and speedboats, ride minecarts, use a hang glider, and even take to the skies in an aeroplane.
As with Argonaut’s first remaster, there’s a bunch of stuff you can delve into if you’re interested in the game’s development.
The new Croc2pedia is essentially a digital museum containing game design documents, marketing materials, animation tests, promotional merchandise and 3D models, including characters, levels and items that never even made it into the finished original.
As alluded to earlier, I absolutely loved the first Croc on PS1, but for whatever reason I never actually managed to finish Croc 2 back in the day.
So, I’ll be spending whatever time I can looking for every Gobbo, opening all the Golden Gobbo Doors, and whatever else I need to do to net that 100% completion.
